Dear Friend,

We hope this letter finds you in good health and good spirits during these trying times. It is with great pride that Congregation Ahavas Sholom announces its 107th Anniversary Gala on Sunday, August 9, 2020. For over a century, Ahavas Sholom has been a beacon of spirituality for the Columbus Jewish Community.

This past year has been truly unprecedented in our lifetimes. Although our charming shul has been closed over the past few months, our engagement with the community has not waned. Through the gifts of modern technology we have enjoyed many wonderful shiurim, davening and social get-togethers.

Now, more than ever, we seek your partnership in enabling us to continue our impactful work on behalf of our congregation and community into the bright future ahead. We are very excited about our all new online platform with adbook details and videos. Be sure to check it out!

This year we are delighted to honor Ed & Lily Friedman with the Amud HaChesed Award. This award recognizes the Friedmans’ many contributions to the shul and the broader Columbus Jewish community. Ed served 10 remarkable years as the Columbus Community Kollel president and Lily has supported a variety of Jewish causes in the community. “Olam chesed yibaneh” (Tehillim 83:3), the world will be built through kindness. Ed & Lily are invariably behind any number of chesed initiatives, contributing generously with a humble spirit. We are deeply grateful for their friendship and kindness.

Additionally, Gary Covel will be awarded with the Lev Tov Award. Gary is a beloved member of our community with friends and admirers across the spectrum. His affability is an outgrowth of his generous spirit. His Lev Tov, good heart, guides his happy demeanor and sensitivity toward others. The very end of Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim concludes with “v’tov lev mishteh tamid” (Mishlei 15:15), a good hearted person feasts perpetually. With his wide smile, Gary brings joy to everyone he encounters with clever humor and an encouraging word. May he continue to be a model of goodness and compassion for many years in good health.

We are grateful to you, our friends and members, for your continued generous support. We look forward to your participation in this year’s digital ad campaign.

Warmest regards,

Rabbi David Claman

Dotan Herszage, President
