President''s
Message:
We recently learned in the daf yomi group about
four sages who temporarily left this world and entered the Pardes. The gemorrah
and the Mechecta chagigah says that three of the sages ended up with a bad outcome,
but the fourth sage (Rabbi Akiva) was able to survive the experience and benefit.
The gemorrah states that one of the reasons Rabbi Akiva was not adversely affected
was his ability to know his limits and not try to directly perceive Hashem. By
writing this news update in place of the rabbi, I hope I have not exceeded my
own limits and if I have, please accept my apologies in advance. This issue alone
should be motivation enough for the synagogue to proceed with the rabbi selection
process. As the months start to go by after the departure of Rabbi Rosenberg,
the Shul has started to evolve, and with the help of the search committee and
interview committee, the rabbi selection process has progressed rapidly. There
has been every effort to keep the process fair and balanced, and hopefully this
will bear fruits shortly. There are numerous outstanding issues which are carefully
being examined by the board and the executive committee, not the least of which
is the repair of the burned out small Beit Kenesset. As of this writing, we are
in the process of obtaining an insurance settlement which should propel us on
to a very nice renovation or additional construction, and rest assured that the
executive board is working hard on this issue. I want to especially thank Chezi
Levi and Patrick Wiesel for their tireless efforts in this regard. Another
aspect of the aggatah from the story of the four sages was a specific observation
on the part of Rabbi Akiva. The appearance of Hashem was preceded by large noises,
heavy winds, and earthquakes. The gemorrah states that Rabbi Akiva came to find
that Hashem was not present in the large noise or activity, but was actually present
in the "small noise" at the end of all of this tumult. With that in
mind, I'd like to thank all of the members of the synagogue who have "stepped
up to the plate" to do all of the "small things" that make the
synagogue run on a day to day basis. The members involved in these little issues
are actually, in my opinion, the unsung heroes of the synagogue and are "mussar
nefesh" on a daily basis. Perhaps the gemorrah is eluding to all the little
things that help make a synagogue in mentioning the presence of Hashem. Please
accept the best wishes of the board and officers in wishing everyone a good Yom
Tov and upcoming Shavuot. Best regards, Warren M. Sobol Chezi

back to the Talmudic era. Our Rabbis place tremendous emphasis on the importance
of concerning ourselves with the needs of others, as we prepare to usher in the

Sholom Sisterhood: A special thanks to Purim basket co-chairs, Karan
Tanenbaum, Ruth Adler, and Agi Hartstein, for working on the Purim Basket fundraiser.
You have a way of making the job look easy. Sisterhood has initiated a
daily evening reading of the Chofetz Chaim's The Daily Companion. This reading
is being done as a zechus for Ahavas Sholom and the Community, and it is open
to the Sisterhood and any Community women and girls. The readings follow a lesson-a-day
plan based on the Hebrew date of the day. The readings begin at 9:30 p.m. Sunday
through Thursday and last about five minutes. The phone number to call is 1-401-694-1602
and the code to enter is 131. It is not necessary to have the book to call in.
All women and girls are invited to participate every night or any night. We
are now working on our second monthly Lunch-and-Learn, details will be in the
weekly announcements. This monthly event is free to members, and babysitting is
available. Our past two general meetings were very informative. Thanks
to Dr. Judith Groner for speaking in January, and florist Jody Brown-Spivey for
her demonstration in May. We are looking forward to more interesting meetings.
Information about our fall events will be forthcoming. Respectfully, Ahavas
Sholom Sisterhood Sisterhood Purim Basket Project, Thank you
