Rabbi's Message:

"For Whom?"

After an extensive and exhaustive building campaign, one has to wonder for whom all of these efforts have been expended? While our members and friends have already begun to enjoy the beauty of the shul and its updated amenities, there is an aspect of our Kehilla that speaks volumes for its genuine motives.

Recently, we read in Parshas Kedoshim about the obligation to rebuke a fellow Jew who is making a mistake. The extent to which that obligation exists is such that we must persist until the point at which the recipient, if they are an acquaintance of ours, would physically strike us. The reason for the requirement to go to these lengths lies within our understanding of the responsibility shared jointly to and for our fellow Jews. As one spiritual unit, the Jewish people exist like no other race on the planet. When one Jew sins, we all share the spiritual loss that has been incurred. This feeling of mutuality must be developed within us, and fortunately its benefits work conversely to our exponential benefit.

The ability and privilege to share our sanctum with others is something in which I have personally witnessed many of our members take pride. Whether it is a simple tour of the new facilities, or more so, welcoming a visitor to the services or a shul program, our members effuse that sense of good fortune, and it is infectious to all. I believe that this stems from a responsibility engendered by this sense of kinship toward our fellow Jews, and it makes me proud to be a part of our Kehilla.

So we can take gratification in the Brachos that Hashem continues to share with us in our wonderful shul, and continue to reap the benefits of our beautiful Makom Tefilla V'Torah, for ourselves and all who come to join us. May we do so for many healthy years to come!

Youth News:

We are very excited to announce another new committee to assist in creating a warm and welcoming environment conducive to the growth of our shul! A youth committee chaired by Elana Gisser is working very hard alongside our young family committee to bring us new and exciting programs.

Here is a sample of what we will see coming up:
  • A shul bar-b-q and football game on May 9th. The young family and youth committee together with the shul social committee has planned a wonderful way to spend Mother's Day. Everyone is invited to join us in Jeffrey Park for a boys' and men's football game and bar-b-q with lots of fun for the whole family.
  • A panoply of youth groups on Shabbos morning is planned to meet our growing need for Shabbos programming. Groups will be overseen by an adult and led by our teens who will help our children with Tefilla, Parsha and Shabbos activities. " We are also looking forward to a monthly minyan for our youth and their parents. Boys and girls will have the opportunity to sit next to a parent and participate in an interactive minyan.

(More details to follow.)

Sisterhood Purim Basket Project:

Once again, thank you to everyone that made this year's Purim basket project a success.

Thank you to Agi Hartstein for taking calls and questions.

Thank you to my daughter Deena for shopping with me, choosing items and with the help of Alex Rosen and Joel Wolff 'shlepping' all the cases up the icey and snowy wooden ramp into the social hall.

Thanks to the group that helped build the baskets: Yael Levi, Noa Levi, Avigayil Levi, Deena Tanenbaum & Barbara Cooper.

Thanks to the Marlene Sobol for helping me put on the tags. Thanks to the Ribbon makers: Faye Mellman, Sofiya Karpovich.

Thanks to all the delivery people: Dr. Bruce & Nancy Kay, Rabbi Yosef & Tova Hauser, Sandy Lefkowitz, Stuart & Tari Modes, David & Cathy Schwartz, Sara Beth Kahn, Ed Mellman, Ron Dolinger, Harold & Elaine Shindel, Drs. David & Miriam Portman, Susan & Alex Rosen, Jack & Shelley Levey, Dr. Warren & Marlene Sobol, Rabbi Yosef & Shanny Katzman, Susan Bonowitz, Boris Ryabinky, Dr. Tricia & Andrew Rosenstein, Dina & Eli Cieplinski, Laura & Ira Nutis, Yael & Yhezkel Levi, Barbara & Marvin Vinar, Rabbi David & Shulamit Ginsburg, Dr. Rick Turkel, Navah Lowy, Rabbi Steve & Barbara Abrams, Agi & Jon Hartstein, Dotan & Shari Herszage, Ellen & Sonny Romanoff, Todd & Eliza Delman, Dan White, z'l.

Thanks to the Berensteins - Mike & Natalie - for always taking Reynoldsburg, Gahanna & New Albany deliveries. There are always exciting stories to tell.

Thank you to Ira Nutis for taking care of shipping nearly 30 baskets to friends and past members who are no longer in Columbus.

As always - thank you Dr. David Mayer for developing the Purim Basket program on the computer. It works great!

And last, but not least, thank you to my husband, Peretz, for everything that he does. Getting the form ready and updates, taking it to the printer, putting everything into the computer (even from those who still can't figure out how to complete the form properly), checking, rechecking, printing out all the cards and shlepping too - are only a few of the many things he did to help me. I could never do this project without his help.

Thank you to everyone!!

Karan Tanenbaum
